The Cavoodle is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They have become increasingly popular over the last decade, especially with families and those with allergies.
The Cavoodle is a small dog with a compact round face. It has a thick, soft coat that can may be wavy or straight. Its muzzle is usually medium length and has large, brown eyes. However, as the Cavoodle is a crossbreed, its appearance can vary significantly from dog to dog.
The Cavoodle is a very affectionate, energetic dog that enjoys being part of the family. They are gentle nature and are great with children. They can adapt to living in a small home or apartment as long as they receive daily exercise. Cavoodles are prone to separation anxiety, so early socialisation and training is important.
Due to their crossbreeding history, Cavoodles are less prone to Poodle and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel health problems. However, they can still present with eye defects, slipped kneecaps, skin diseases, epilepsy and congenital heart problems.
Cavoodles usually do not shed their fur, yet their coats do require regular grooming. Their ears may need to be cleaned frequently to avoid infections and their teeth require regular brushing as they are prone to tartar build-up and gingivitis.
Their eyes should be cleaned daily to prevent a build-up eye discharge and tear staining. The Cavoodle needs plenty of attention and daily exercise to prevent them from barking and to keep them happy.
