At Karingal Veterinary Hospital we believe in providing all pets, no matter what species, the very best veterinary care available. For this reason, we are now no longer seeing species other than dogs and cats (i.e. no reptiles, birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, mice, fish, Australian mammals, insects and arachnids) at our practice.
Many veterinarians do not have the necessary knowledge and training to provide appropriate care to these special pets. Little about them is taught at veterinary school and so the vast majority of veterinarians have minimal exposure to these sorts of animals. While much of what veterinarians know about dogs and cats can be applied to the vast array of unusual pets, there are some very particular health concerns that they can develop. Only a veterinarian with the appropriate experience and knowledge can adequately diagnose, treat and prevent disease in these species.
We are now referring ALL these non-traditional pets to the Unusual Pet Vets – Peninsula practice.
The Unusual Pet Vets is staffed by a team of veterinarians and veterinary nurses that are experienced in treating these species. Our very own Dr Shane Simpson will be working some of his time at this new practice.
It is located at 210 Karingal Drive, Frankston…. literally 200 metres down the road from us in the building that used to house Ballam Park Veterinary Clinic.
They are open 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Saturday and 9am to 3pm Sunday.
Their phone number is 8738 3210.
