At Karingal Veterinary Hospital, owners are welcome to visit their hospitalised pets any time we are open.
As an ASAV Hospital of Excellence, we do all we can to make sure our patients are calm, happy and well cared for, but few things soothe our patients as well as being visited by their families. Happy to see their owners, a family visit gives pets a well-earned distraction from recovery.
Animals in unfamiliar environments can become stressed, so supplying them with creature comforts from home, playing games or spending time with them in hospital can help to calm them down. By distracting your pet with food, games, their favourite blanket or cushion, or simply by spending time with them in hospital, you are helping to reduce your pet’s potential anxiety, allowing them to get on with getting better.
For these reasons, and for owners to see how well their pet is recovering, we encourage pet owners to visit their animals when in our care.
Toys and puzzles provide much needed mental enrichment for your pets while they are in our care. Dogs get a lot of their mental stimulus on their daily walks, where they sniff and discover new areas. When their movement is limited post-surgery, toys and puzzles provide an excellent alternative.
To help ease tension, bring one or two small items from home to create a comfortable environment for your pet. We use Feliway and Adaptil pheromone spray to help our cats and dogs feel calm while they recover from surgery. Some clients bring socks or a pet’s favourite cushion or blanket to keep them feeling calm and safe during their stay.
Karingal Veterinary Hospital are an accredited hospital with the Australian Small Animal Veterinarians (ASAV). ASAV awards veterinary hospitals with Hospital of Excellence accreditations when they have demonstrated high standards across all services, from anaesthesiology to zoological education programs.
As an ASAV accredited Hospital of Excellence, we are proud of our facilities, and welcome new clients to tour our hospital. As part of our Puppy School Program, new dog owners are invited on a tour of Karingal Veterinary Hospital to better understand the processes we perform when their puppies are injured, immunised, desexed, sick or otherwise need our care.
Everyone wants to know their pet is well looked after when they have to leave them. This is even more so when the pet is sick and has to be hospitalised.
