Dr Shane Simpson

dr shane, vet frankston, pet doctor, animal emergency, frankston vetPosition:
Practice Owner/Veterinarian

Commenced:
1996

Qualifications:
BVSc (Hons), GCM(VP)

Biography:
Dr Shane Simpson is a Melbourne born and bred but graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons) in 1996. Literally less than a week after finishing university he moved back to Melbourne to join Karingal Veterinary Hospital and has been here ever since!… yep that long! He is one of the practice owners and is the Hospital’s longest serving employee! Shane does not actually do much in the way of cat and dog vetting anymore but spends most of his time managing the hospital’s daily running such as keeping the Hospital’s IT systems running smoothly and overseeing cases with the other veterinarians where needed. When not at Karingal Veterinary Hospital he can be found just down the road where is also an owner of The Unusual Pet Vets. Shane has a keen interest in reptile and amphibian medicine and surgery and his one of the country’s leading experts in this field. He has been able to convert his childhood fascination with this unusual group of animals into his career. As such Shane is often speaking at conferences and events about reptile medicine and surgery to fellow veterinarians, veterinary nurses and reptile keepers. Not surprisingly, Shane’s bucket list involves reptiles with visiting Madagascar and the Galapagos Islands being at the top. In addition, he would like to see the Northern Lights. The Simpson household is somewhat of a zoo with well over 40 different snakes, lizards, turtles and frogs taking up residence. On top of that there are 4 Green-cheek Conure parrots who love making lots of noise.

When not being a veterinarian, Shane enjoys DIY and can often be found in his workshop tinkering on something.

Been taking our fur babies to the team at Karingal for 6 years now and always receive the best treatment. From the reception team, the vet nurses and vets, we always felt well cared for. They’ve always listened to our concerns thoroughly and never made us feel stupid when explaining things.I always appreciate their follow up calls to double check our pet has been feeling better and that there’s no more issues, I feel like they do genuinely care for my animals :)Also greatly appreciate the gap only claims for pet insurance, saves a lot of time and money!

We took both our greyhounds here after trying a few vets in the area and they are by far the best. So knowledgeable about the breed and so understanding and patient with their anxiety about going into the consulting rooms. It’s so nice to see your pets being taken such good care of, getting lots of pats and reassurance. Thank you so much!

I’ve seen multiple vets and nurses at this clinic since having my first puppy, and every single person has been fantastic. They really pay attention to your concerns and are really thorough with their examinations. I appreciate that they never rush me and take their time to explain things to me. As a first time puppy owner, it’s always great to have things explained in such detail. They are all so friendly and accommodating and I would have absolutely no trouble recommending this clinic to my friends or family.
