No-one likes to see animals in pain, particularly when that pain is caused by a surgical procedure.
Ensuring our patients are as comfortable as possible is therefore a primary goal of all of our veterinarians. When planning your pet’s surgical procedure our veterinarians will always consider what level of pain relief will be required, how that pain relief is to be administered and what medications will be used.
As a pet owner you will never be asked by any of our staff if you would like to get pain relief for your pet… that’s because it is mandatory! We do not believe in offering it as an optional extra.
When dealing with surgery, pain relief most often starts well before the procedure is even started. It is well documented that by providing certain medications before a painful procedure is commenced will result in a reduction in the severity of the pain experienced. This is one of the reasons we give pets medications prior to surgery and continue them during and after the procedure.
Local anaesthesia is used extensively by our veterinary team. Using nerve blocks when cutting skin, removing teeth and performing other surgery can reduce that amount of general anaesthesia required, shorten the recovery period and obviously make the pet more comfortable.
Our veterinarians take their jobs very seriously and part of that is remaining at the forefront of veterinary medicine. We invest a lot of time, effort and money in ensuring our vets continually update their skills and knowledge. As a result of this we are constantly reviewing and adjusting our pain relief protocols to ensure our patients always receive the very best care.
